Pack 109

Spring time with Troop 109:

Troop 109 moved into the spring with a lot of activities and will slowly start to wind down the scouting year. Back in March we had a great campout at Cochegan Rock down in Montville. The scouts had a great time and found out what it was like to have to hike their gear into their campsite. It certainly made them appreciate their Troop Trailer and the amount of gear that it can carry. Many scout skills were learned on this campout and all scouts had a great time. Of course it rained heavy on the campout so this was especially challenging for those who have never camped in the rain before.

April was a bit of a slower month. Scouts worked on some merit badges over their school break and worked on some more scout skills. This was one of the few months that we did not campout but we still had a lot of activities for the scouts to work on.

We moved into May and opted to help out Pack 109 with their annual fishing derby. We camped near Day Pond and fished the day prior to the Pack fishing derby that way our scouts would be able to help the Cub Scouts on their day. Both days went very well. Many of our scouts completed their fishing merit badges and a couple even augmented their patrols dinner with some fresh fish. The next day we helped the Pack which entailed our scouts going around and helping the Cub Scouts with baiting hooks and casting their lines. They also helped to record the number of fish caught and the largest fish from each Cub rank. It was certainly great fellowship and interaction with the Pack.

As we look forward to the summer we will be camping in June at JN Webster Scout Reservation and doing some more rock climbing. It will be good to camp at Webster since we will be back there in July for summer camp and this outing will get the new scouts used to this camp and should make the transition easier in July when they will be there for a whole week.

We will have our June Court of Honor in a couple weeks and then conduct our annual planning to see what adventures we will come up with for next year.

Check back often to follow up on the adventures of Troop 109.
